The burnt offering/ קרבן עולה
The reasons one might choose to bring a קרבן עולה, are the following. Either they missed an opportunity to do a positive מצוה and they want to make up for it, or they transgressed a מצוה לא תעשה that can be fixed by a positive מצוה. Lastly, if you have impure or idolatrous thoughts. The source for this korban is found in the second and third פסוקים of פרשת ויקרא. The פסוקים say: "דבר אל בני ישראל ואמרת אלהם אדם כי יקריב מכם קרבן לה' מן הבהמה מן הבקר ומן הצאן תקריבו את קרבנכם
The torah then goes on to tell us: "אם עולה קרבנו מן הבקר זכר תמים יקריבנו אל פתח אהל מועד יקריב אותו לרצונו לפני ה׳. Rav Mishkin explains that an example of a situation where a person would want to bring an עולה, is if they did not finish the the קרבן פסח, the night of פסח.
